Turkmen-Latvian political consultations were held in Riga

On March 26, 2025, within the framework of the working visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov to the Republic of Latvia, Turkmen-Latvian political consultations were held with Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia – Political Director Ivars Lasis.
During the consultations, the sides discussed topical issues and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Latvia both in bilateral format and within the framework of international structures, in particular with the EU.
Special attention was paid to the development of trade and economic cooperation. It was emphasized that regular meetings, business forums and exhibitions promote the establishment of direct contacts between the business circles of the two countries.
The parties discussed the possibility of applying the experience of Latvia in the process of Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The sides emphasized the importance of intensifying the work of the Turkmen-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation. In this context, they exchanged views on expanding cooperation in the field of transport and high technologies.
The diplomats discussed the importance of improving the legal framework for the development of interstate ties.
In addition, the sides noted the mutual commitment to intensification of inter-parliamentary contacts.
