President of Turkmenistan took part in a ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations

On 22 September 2025, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in th official ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN, which took place at the Organisation’s headquarters in New York.
The event started with a musical performance by the Sing for Hope Youth Chorus, Metropolitan Chorus singers and pianist David Watkins, conducted by Tilman Michael.
In her speech, UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock recalled the history of the Organisation’s establishment, contemporary challenges and the need to work together.
During the event, a video dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the UN was shown.
The participants then listened to a speech by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. In his speech, the Secretary-General noted the importance of the difficult work carried out by UN staff throughout the Organisation’s history. He spoke about the current realities and called for coordinated action.
“The only way forward is together. Let us rise to this moment with clarity, courage, and conviction. And let us realize the promise of peace”, he said.
The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa spoke at the meeting. In her speech, she spoke about the challenges in the field of human rights and information in the digital age.
The speeches of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, as well as the former Prime Minister of Norway Gro Harlem Brundtland were heard at the event.
The important role of the UN in ensuring peace, security, sustainable development and human rights was highlighted in the speeches.
The meeting concluded with a speech by Ambassador of Peace and poet Maryam Bukhar Hassan.
It is worthwhile to note that all these calls are consistent with the fundamental position of Turkmenistan, who regards the UN as the keystone of the modern system of global interaction, as well as the guarantor of the protection and maintenance of peace and balance of interests in the international arena.
