Meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, High Representative of the Alliance of Civilizations

On 23 September 2025, a meeting was held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Ángel Moratinos.

During the meeting, the sides discussed priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations, emphasizing the importance of promoting dialogue between cultures and religions, as well as strengthening mutual understanding and trust in international relations. Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to actively engage the platform of the 80th session of the General Assembly to advance the theme of peace, trust and mutual understanding.

In this regard, an initiative was put forward to consider the possibility of arranging joint events and projects with the participation of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, including in the Central Asian region.

In this context, proposals of Turkmenistan to hold the international forum “Central Asia – a Space for Building a Peaceful Life” under the auspices of UNESCO and the Alliance of Civilizations, and in particular the Global Summit on the Culture of Peace, Trust and Mutual Respect, were discussed.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed determination to continue developing interaction in the mentioned fields, strengthening cooperation for the sake of peace and mutual respect.
